Chlorine and health

Eighty-five percent of medicines, including many life-saving drugs, are synthesized using chlorine chemistry. Many medical instruments and utensils as well as cleaning products and disinfectants used in hospitals are produced using chlorine chemistry.

Also, PVC plastic, which is made from chlorine, is used in the 25% of medical devices. These include blood bags, sterile tubing, heart catheters and prosthetics.
